Digital Radio Systems

Motorola digital radios can be operated in both digital or analogue modes and with different types of digital system. The operating mode can be programmed on a per channel basis allowing Motorola Digital radios to integrate with many systems or channels on the same site or event.

Analogue modes
Digital radios can be programmed to operate on analogue back to back and repeater channels for integration with existing channels on site. Radios operating on analogue channels will not have access to digital features when these channels are selected.

Back to back digital
All digital radios talking to each other on a channel without the use of base station equipment. This will normally give an extended useable range when compared with analogue back to back radios. All of the standard digital features are available in this mode.

The Range of digital “Back to back” channels can be improved by the use of one of the Motorola Digital radio systems.

Digital Repeater
Digital radios operating through a Motorola digital repeater will have extended operating range and increased signal levels in buildings. The Motorola digital repeater will give two independent voice channels from the same bandwidth as an analogue repeater thus allowing two wider area channels from a single channel licence. In this mode all of the digital features are available to the users.

Capacity Plus
Several Motorola digital repeaters can be configured as a single multi-channel system. Traditional systems with one channel being physically tied to one user group can be in efficient in that one channel can be idle for long periods whereas others can be overworked. The capacity plus allows users to make calls on the next available channel hence there is the possibility to have more groups than channels on the system, in a similar way to analogue trunked radio systems. Capacity plus systems are capable of handling a large volume of calls across many virtual channels giving event organisers a cost effective multi-channel solution.
The use of capacity plus allows easier use of individual calling as well as access to all of the other digital radio features.

IP Site Connect
This option for the digital repeater allows conversations to take place between radios at remote sites. A Motorola Digital repeater base station is installed at each site and connected to each other by either IP lines or wireless links. Once linked, a call on a channel at one site will be rebroadcast at all other sites allowing both individual or groups calls to take place across many locations. The illustration shows a two site system although in reality many more sites can be configured into a single solution.
